Lithuania’s 2012 annual Russian language Olympiad

The Ministry of Education and Science of Lithuania and the Lithuanian Youth Information and Technical Creativity Centre in collaboration with EuroChem and its Lifosa facility held its annual Russian language competition in the town of Vilnius.

This year’s Olympiad was devoted to the work of Mikalojus Čiurlionis and the Silver Age of Russian Poetry. Following preliminary rounds conducted throughout Lithuania, a total of 85 students, of which 59 came from Lithuanian, Polish and Belarussian schools and 26 from Russian schools, competed in the Olympiad. .The three-day event included a Russian poetry recital contest, grammar tests, and social events.

Participants and winners were awarded commemorative medals and certificates from the Ministry of Education and Science and gifts and prizes from the Olympiad’s partners, including trips to Russia. These were highly appreciated as some of the winners have never been to Russia.

The Chairman of the Association of the Russian School Teachers in Lithuania Ella Kanaite, Russian Ambassador to Lithuania Vladimir Chkhikvadze, and representatives of the Lithuanian Ministry of Science and Education were on hand to congratulate the winners.
