EuroChem-VolgaKali railway begins operating

EuroChem announced today that it commissioned an 11.5 km railway line in Kotelnikovo (Volgograd region). Construction of the railway branch line began in June 2009 and will support operations at EuroChem’s Gremyachinskoye potash mine and beneficiation plant.

The railway branch, which includes close to 20 turnout switches, can handle up to 120 railcars or over 5 thousand tonnes of freight per day and will substantially reduce freight costs associated with the construction of the Gremyachinskoye potash deposit.

The railway branch was certified by Russian Railways and conforms to standards of the Russian Ministry of Railways. Next to be commissioned will be the Gremyachinskoye railway yard.

Scheduled for Q1 2011, the yard will allow EuroChem to further decrease freight costs at its Gremyachinskoye operations.
